What is the difference between Pages, Posts and Comments.

Look at the WordPress main menu. There are three major publishing options called Posts, Pages and Comments. Often would be developers get confused as to what is the difference between a WordPress page and a post.

Pages

Are the stuff of websites,  these are what you expect to see on a website and are static content. Each page will appear in the website menu. The menu is the main way to navigate your pages.

Comments

These are added at the end of web pages or posts that you have written. They can appear automatically or you can authorise which are allowed to appear. You approve which ones can be published and be seen by choosing the main menu option “Comments

Here all the comments are listed, so:

  • Simply read the comment

  • Click on Approve, Spam or Trash.

  • You can also edit the comment before allowing it to appear.

Comments can either appear on a web page or can be found by using the web sites own search engine box using key words, found in the right column of the Twenty Ten website layout.

Posts

Posts are thoughts/comments you can add to your site as if they were pages. However, they do not appear in the website’s menu unless you create a menu entry for them (see later). Post can be bound to a category.  Example categories for a transport site might be cars, ships, airplanes, rockets etc. A menu option can be set up to list all the cars found. Posts can be found also by entering keywords and in the websites search box

Editing content for posts, comments and pages are very similar and therefore are not treated separately.
